Website delivery through AWS

This website is provided as a static site using services from Amazon Web Services EMEA SARL (AWS), Luxembourg. The website files are stored in Amazon S3 in the AWS Switzerland (Zurich) Region. Amazon CloudFront delivers them through a global network of edge locations, and Amazon Route 53 supports domain name resolution.

When you access the website, AWS processes technically necessary connection data. These include, in particular, the IP address, date and time, requested address, referring page, browser and device information, and transmission protocol details. This processing is used to provide the website securely, quickly and reliably. Bergkreuz does not use these connection data to analyse individual user behaviour or for marketing purposes.

CloudFront selects an edge location according to each request. Connection data may therefore be processed not only in Switzerland but also in countries within the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, the United States or other countries in which AWS operates parts of its global network. Where required, such transfers are covered by the AWS Data Processing Addendum, its Swiss Addendum and recognised Standard Contractual Clauses.

Audience measurement with Matomo

We use the open-source software Matomo to understand, in aggregate, how this website is used and to improve its content, usability and technical quality. Matomo is operated by Bergkreuz at insights.bergkreuz.ch on a dedicated instance provided through AWS. Analytics data are not transferred to the provider of Matomo or to advertising or other analytics providers.

The data collected include, in particular, pages viewed, links clicked, the time and duration of a visit, the referring page, and the reading depth reached in broad stages. This is supplemented by technical information about the browser, operating system and device type that the browser transmits with the request. The IP address necessarily reaches our Matomo server when the request is transmitted. We do not use this information to identify visitors.

Matomo is configured not to set analytics cookies and to disable the detection of additional browser features. We do not use persistent or cross-visit visitor recognition, user IDs, browser fingerprinting, heatmaps or session recordings. No profiles are created across multiple visits. Reports are produced in aggregate and are not combined with contact, client or other personal data. We respect a Do Not Track setting enabled in the browser.

Raw data are retained only for as long as required for audience measurement, technical security and troubleshooting. They are then deleted or converted into aggregate statistics. Aggregate statistics may be retained for longer because they cannot be attributed to a particular person.

Where the EU General Data Protection Regulation applies, this privacy-preserving audience measurement is based on our legitimate interest in assessing the use and proper functioning of the website and improving our offering (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

Contacting us

If you contact us by email, we process your contact details, the content of your message and the technically necessary metadata in order to respond to your enquiry and conduct further communication. Our email service is provided by Infomaniak Network SA, Rue Eugène-Marziano 25, 1227 Les Acacias, Switzerland. Infomaniak processes these data on our behalf and operates its email infrastructure in Switzerland. Further information is available in Infomaniak’s data protection information.

If you contact us by telephone, we process the information you provide and the technically necessary connection data in order to handle your enquiry.

Contact details and messages are deleted once they are no longer required to handle and document the enquiry. Statutory retention obligations and legitimate interests in further retention remain reserved, in particular for business-relevant correspondence or information connected with an engagement. Where the GDPR applies, processing is carried out to take steps before entering into a contract, to perform a contract or on the basis of our legitimate interest in handling your enquiry (Article 6(1)(b) and (f) GDPR).

Cookies and external content

This website does not use analytics or marketing cookies. Audience measurement with Matomo takes place without cookies. We do not embed external fonts, social media plugins, maps, videos or advertising content that transmit data to their providers as soon as the page is opened. The software required for Matomo is loaded from our own subdomain, insights.bergkreuz.ch.

External links

This website contains links to external services, such as LinkedIn. Data are transferred to the respective provider only when you follow such a link. The provider’s own privacy policy applies to its processing of data.

Your rights

Under applicable data protection law, you may in particular request information about the processing of your personal data and ask for inaccurate data to be corrected or deleted. Depending on the law that applies, you may have additional rights, including restriction of processing, objection or data portability. Because Matomo does not recognise visitors and does not create profiles across visits, previously collected aggregate analytics data generally cannot be attributed to a particular person.

To exercise your rights or ask questions about data protection, contact info@bergkreuz.ch. You may also contact the Swiss Federal Data Protection and Information Commissioner (FDPIC) or, where the GDPR applies, a competent data protection supervisory authority.

Scope and updates

This privacy notice is governed by the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection. Where applicable, the requirements of the EU General Data Protection Regulation are also taken into account. We may update this notice if the website, the services used or the legal requirements change.
